English: Left: engineering drawing of the ST40 tokamak of Tokamak Energy Ltd, Culham Science Centre, showing the steel support rings above and below the vessel, and the merging-compression coils which provide an initial high current, hot plasma without need of the central solenoid.
Right: model of the vacuum vessel and components of ST40. KINX simulations show that growth rates of the highly elongated (κ~2.6) plasma shown can be limited to e-fold times of ~20 ms by the passive plates (indicated), and can be stabilized by internal active feedback coils.
